Cyber Monday: What do the holidays reveal about the future of UK high streets?

American export ‘Cyber Monday’ has become one of the UK’s busiest online shopping days of the year. Global Information Service Experian has anticipated Cyber Monday to exceed the number of ‘Black Friday’ online shoppers.

Last year ‘UK consumers logged over 115 million visits to retail websites – a 9% increase from 2012’ on Cyber Monday, Experian has said.

The information service has estimated just under 120 million online visitors to over the course of the day.

Cyber Monday is not the only online trend expected over Christmas period. According to Experian, the Internet is set to dominate the holidays with ‘email’ being the ‘hub of 2014 holiday marketing campaigns’ and ‘mobile marketing’ set to be particularly ‘prevalent’.

Internet sales will increase over the next week, with ‘Manic Monday’ on 8th December expected to recieve 120 million visitors online.

Digital Insight Manager for Experian James Murray has said:

“With shopping becoming easier on the go, savvy consumers are also increasingly using the internet on mobile devices to browse, compare and shop where, when and how they want. ”
